Dallas Carpet Cleaning-Pet Stain Tips

Throughout North Texas, especially Dallas, many of us are proud pet owners, and the majority of our little rascals are indoor pets. We do what we can to make sure they are well taken care of, from grooming to keeping their teeth clean, making sure they are eating quality food to providing good training and healthy exercise, but no matter how well we try to take care of them, accidents do happen!

Although you just let them outside to do their business, the minute they come in and you turn your back, you pet decides your brand-new carpet is the perfect spot to relieve them self. Even after years of owning pets, it still seems impossible to find that perfect carpet cleaning product or method. As your Dallas carpet cleaning team, we’d like to share a few pet stain cleaning tips.

Carpet cleaning for fresh pet stains:

  1. With newspaper and paper towels, soak up as much of the pet urine as possible. Place a multiple layers of paper towels on the wet stain, and then cover that with a layer of newspaper. If the stain is on a rug, place a layer of newspaper under the spot also. Stand on the padding for at least one minute to soak up the wet stain. Remove the wet paper towels and newspapers and repeat this process as many times as necessary until the spot is barely damp. The more urine you remove from the carpet before it dries, the easier it will be to remove the odor.
  2. For training purposes, put the soaked up urine paper towels in the location you pet should have relieved themselves (i.e. outside for dogs and litter box for cats).
  3. Rinse and clean the pet stain location thoroughly with clean tap water. After rinsing, remove as much water as possible from the location by either blotting with a dry towel or using a wet/dry vacuum.

Carpet cleaning for set-in pet stains:

  1. Use a wet carpet cleaner. If you don’t already own one, you can rent one from a local store. These machines work like a vacuum cleaner and can be very efficient for removing set-in stains all kinds. Wet extracting carpet cleaning machines work well on stains because they force clean water through the carpet and force the dirty water out. Be sure to follow the provided cleaning instructions.
  2. Once the area is clean, use a pet odor neutralizer. The high-quality pet neutralizers are available at most pet supply stores.
  3. If there is still any discoloration to the carpet or fabric, try a pet stain remover that works on carpets. Be sure to use it only when the carpet is completely dry.
  4. When using carpet cleaning machines and stain removers, avoid using steam cleaners and cleaning chemicals. Heat from steam cleaners will permanently set-in the stain and the odor by bonding the enzymes and proteins into the fibers. Cleaning chemicals, such as ammonia and vinegar, don’t truly remove pet odor from the carpet fibers.
